Dated, but if you're stuck with AGP, a decent choiceApr 16, 2011
By Computer Keith Workstation graphics, like the rest of the computing industry, have moved on since this card's heyday. However, if you're unlucky enough to still be using a machine with an AGP (vs PCI-EX) bus, AND you need workstation (as opposed to gaming) graphics, then this card is among the better choices you'll still find available. Good and reliable, too. I owned several at one time, including the one currently in the machine I'm using to write this review. (The last AGP machine I have! )
As for the other comment saying that the picture is of a 900 ...
Seeing as we upgraded several 900's here to 980's back in the day, perhaps I can shed some light. The 900 and the 980 differ only in their use of the AGP bus. The 900 is AGP 4X, the 980 is AGP 8X. Aside from that, they look nearly identical. Yes, if you held the two side by side, you can tell them apart because the capacitors are arranged differently, but it's the kind of detail that would be nearly impossible to determine with any reliability from a distant, low-res picture like the one shown.
If I had to guess, though, I'd say the picture is definitely of a later version of the 980. I've got several of both in front of me right now. While it is true that for the most part the 900's have a mixture of black and silver caps, while the 980's have all silver caps, I do have a couple of 980's that are mixed black and silver. Of those, the difference is that the 900's have the silver caps at the rear edge of the card, with the black caps in front, while the 980's have the black caps on the rear edge of the card, with the silver caps in front ... like the one shown. However, all this tells me for certain is that several variations of capacitor arrangement exist for both cards, so I stand by my original statement that you really can't tell from the picture shown. It boils down to whether or not you trust the seller to know the difference. Considering my experiences with most 3rd party retailers here ... I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

is this the right picture?Mar 22, 2011
By MrHam The picture shown is one model less, this is not the 980, it looks like 900. If this picture not the actual product, it should have been specified. The right picture will make this item sell at such price. otherwise this would be the 900 series and should be around $10-20 only, there is a big difference in configuration and application between the 900 and 980 AGP graphics adapters. I could have purchased this product, but my doubt about if it is really 980 made me not buy. sorry.
