4An easy to use product that works wellMay 24, 2000
By Bibliophile
I use one of these internal 250 MB Zip Drives on a daily basis. I am very happy with it.

Installation was a snap. I was able to install it in my Dell computer in under 10 minutes, and then install the software and have it functional in another 10 minutes. Initially, I had installed it in Windows 98, but have recently upgraded to Windows 2000 and it still works well. I have another of these drives installed in my Linux box and it works there as well.

I primarily use the Zip drive to carry data around with me (home, work, etc.) that changes too quickly to burn cdroms. It functions perfectly, seems very durable, and makes transferring data simple. Sometimes, I wish it were a bit faster (like at the end of the day), but my "go-home-from-work" routine of copying about 200 MB of data allows me to clean up the desk, turn off the light, etc., then grab the zip disk and go.

Eventually, they will probably make a 1 GB Zip drive, but for now, the 250 MB Zip meets my needs.

5Fastest type of zip drive there is!Jan 28, 2001

Well, the SCSI zip drive is just as fast as the internal one, but I don't have any SCSI ports, and why spend the extra money for a card, so I can use a more expensive zip drive that sits on my desk. Portability is not necessary to me because most all my friends and co-workers have zip drives too. I did have a USB Zip 250 before, but I never took it anywhere so I sold it to my friend for cheap and got the internal 250. The speed is gerat - more than twice as fast!

If portability is an issue, get a USB drive. If you don't have USB ports, you'd better have SCSI ports, or lots of time to waste. The parallel port version is just too slow. They take over an hour to copy off a full 250MB Zip disk!

But in going beyond comparison of apples and oranges... Zip drives really are great, I would recommend one to anyone. They're fast (except for the parallel one, ugh) the 100/250MB per disk is great. Not to big, and most importantly - not too small. They're one of, if not the most reliable magnetic removable media I've seen. Out of all the disks I've had, more than I can count, I can only remember 1 going bad.
